The nigerian army said four members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant affiliate, ESN, were killed during a fierce battle with their troops in Obinze.
Army spokesman Onyema Nwachukwu made this known in a statement Monday.
The troops of the 34th Obinze Brigade have neutralized four members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in a fierce encounter that took place in Amaifeke and Ihioma in the Government Area Local of Orlu of the State of Imo. The terrorists were eliminated today, Monday, May 16, 2022, as they fired sporadically, threatening the lives and property of innocent citizens.
Angry dissidents opened fire upon sighting the patrol team, which was out to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property. The vigilante troops engaged the criminals and neutralized four of them, while others succumbed to the troops’ superior firepower and escaped the scene.
Items recovered from the encounter include a short pump-action pistol, 10 live cartridges, a Hilux truck, which was reportedly seized at gunpoint yesterday by irredentists, mobile phones and amulets.
Members of the public are asked to provide credible information about the movement of criminal elements to law enforcement agencies whenever they are seen in their communities.
