Late Kwara Governor Mohammed Lawal’s son, Hakeem has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Lawal, a 2019 governorship aspirant, officially joined the SDP in his Idi-Ape ancestral home on Thursday accompanied with thousands of supporters and well-wishers.

Lawal told reporters in Ilorin, the state capital shortly after formally registering for the party.
He said: “I visited my ancestral home to pay homage to my people. The welcome from the elders, women, and the young folks was one of genuine love. I pray I’m able to repay their sincere love.
